fraction
A fraction is like sharing a pizza with your friends. If you have a whole pizza and you cut it into 4 equal pieces, each piece is a part of the whole pizza. If you take one piece, you have 1 out of the 4 pieces, or (\frac{1}{4}) of the pizza. The number on the top, called the numerator, tells you how many parts you have. The number on the bottom, called the denominator, tells you how many equal parts the whole is divided into.
Think of a fraction like a treasure map. The map is divided into squares, and each square is a part of the whole map. If you color 3 out of 8 squares, you have colored (\frac{3}{8}) of the map. The numerator is like how many squares you colored, and the denominator is like how many squares there are in total.
A fraction is also like a piece of a chocolate bar. If the bar has 10 pieces and you eat 2, you have eaten (\frac{2}{10}) of the bar. It’s a way to show that you have part of something that used to be whole.
