frighten
Frighten is like when you see a big shadow in your room at night, and your heart starts to beat really fast because you don’t know what it is. But then you turn on the light, and you see it’s just your teddy bear sitting on a chair. Your heart slows down because you realize there’s nothing to be scared of.
Frighten can also be like when you’re at the park and you hear a loud noise like a big thunder. It makes you jump because it’s unexpected and you don’t know where it came from. But then you see it’s just fireworks, and you feel better because you know it’s not something dangerous.
Sometimes, frighten feels like when you’re playing hide and seek and someone jumps out to say ‘boo!’ You feel a quick jolt inside, like a little surprise. But then you laugh because you know it’s just a game, and your friend didn’t mean to scare you for real. It’s like a tiny rollercoaster in your tummy that goes away quickly.
