hemisphere
A hemisphere is like a big orange cut in half. If you have an orange and you slice it right down the middle, you end up with two pieces. Each piece is a hemisphere. The Earth is like a giant orange, and it’s also divided into two main hemispheres: the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere.
Think of a hemisphere as a cozy blanket that covers half of the Earth. The blanket can be the top half or the bottom half. When it’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere is having summer. So, it’s like having two different blankets with different weather!
A hemisphere is also like a big smiley face. When you draw a line across the middle of the face, you get a top part and a bottom part. Each part is a hemisphere. The top part is where you might find things like Santa Claus and polar bears because it’s closer to the North Pole. The bottom part is where you might find penguins and kangaroos because it’s closer to the South Pole.
