sample
A sample is like a tiny piece of a big puzzle. Imagine you have a huge puzzle with lots of pieces. If you take just one piece, you can learn something about the whole puzzle, like its colors or patterns. This small piece is your sample! It helps you guess what the rest of the puzzle looks like without having to see every piece.
Think of a sample as a scoop of ice cream from a big tub. By tasting just one scoop, you can tell if the whole tub is chocolate or strawberry. The scoop is your sample, and it gives you a good idea of what the entire tub tastes like.
A sample can also be like picking a few jellybeans from a jar. If you pick some jellybeans and see they are mostly red, you might guess that the jar has lots of red jellybeans. The ones you picked are your sample, helping you make a smart guess about the rest.
In a class, if a teacher asks a few kids what their favorite color is, that’s a sample. By knowing what those kids like, the teacher gets an idea of what the whole class might like.
